# What is ERC-4337?

The Ethereum community has put forward a proposal advocating for the use of Smart Contract Accounts (SCAs) as the primary accounts for users. This initiative aims to assist users in navigating the complexities of managing web3 accounts.

ERC-4337 runs on top of the blockchain and does not require any changes to the blockchain itself. This design ensures its immediate applicability on Ethereum or any other EVM-compatible chain, without requiring substantial alterations to the existing blockchain infrastructure.
